Where to Stay: The Urban Newtown Hotel in Sydney, Australia

During our time in Sydney, we spent a couple of days in Newtown, which is known as the city’s cultural melting pot.  Not only is Newtown full of up and coming artists, unique shops & restaurants, and some of the best street art in Sydney, it’s also home to The Urban Newtown Hotel.  The 79 room, 4 Star property is a boutique accommodation with industrial styling and an urban decor, sitting on the main street of Newtown, giving you quick access to the local hotspots. Its short walk from the train station and edgy, yet comfortable feel, make Urban Newtown an easy pick for those looking for a place to rest after a day of hanging out in the city.

We were lucky enough to experience two of the rooms at Urban Newtown and agreed that both of our suites were clean, comfortable, and aesthetically cool.

Designed to resemble an abandoned club, The Urban Newtown’s open air quad in the middle of the hotel has vintage and distressed instruments strung about and graffiti on its columns and beams. The Urban Newtown was also true to its Newtown roots, featuring the work of local artists in all of its rooms. The hotel’s touches of repurposed materials, coupled with luxury comforts made for a great mix.

Each room was equipped with a kitchenette for any quick cooking you’d like to partake in during your stay. The bathrooms all came with rain shower heads and locally made toiletries. The wifi was free and consistently strong, which is always a plus.  And if you’re lucky, you’ll get a chance to experience one of their free wine tastings or local beer samplings held throughout the week.  If not, the mini-bar is chock full of these very items, so you can enjoy the local fare in the comfort of your room.

The staff was extremely helpful and gave us great tips on local restaurants, nearby events, and where the best street art in Newtown could be found.

We stayed in four different properties while in Sydney and The Urban Newtown was the clear favorite.  We know you’d enjoy your stay just as much as we did! Rooms start at $167/night.
